On the morning of 10 November, 2022, at the special session of Technology Briefings by International Technology Transfer Agencies of the 8th China Jiangsu Conference for International Technology Transfer and Commercialization (CITTC) held in Nanjing. Professor Daping Chu, Tenured Professor of Cambridge University, and Academic Director and CEO of CUNJC, was invited to deliver a keynote speech on behalf of CUNJC, interpreting the Centre 's scientific research and industrialisation model, technology transfer service path and settling enterprises.

The event was held with the theme “YRD: Open Innovation and New Opportunities for Common Development”, focusing on the foreign cooperation needs of industrial innovation in the Yangtze River Delta region, and comprehensively integrates overseas innovation resources in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The Yangtze River Delta region is one of the regions with the most active economic factors, the highest degree of openness, and the strongest innovation capability in China. In recent years, the region has been continuously intensifying efforts to build a multi-level, wide-ranging, and rich-connotation innovative international service system, actively introducing joint research and development institutions, international technology transfer service institutions, and international innovation institutions established or jointly established by many well-known foreign universities and scientific research institutions. The special session of Technology Briefings by International Technology Transfer Agencies that the Centre was invited to participate in aimed to give full play to the advantages of international technology transfer service organisations in the Yangtze River Delta region in linking rich innovation resources, discuss construction experience together, and share information on scientific and technological projects.

At the event, with the title of " Cambridge University – Nanjing Centre–A Commercialization Platform for Scientific Technologies Transfer and Industralisation", Professor Chu systematically explained the multi-dimensional industrialisation model of "policy, industry, learning, government and capital" that the Centre is committed to building, and introduced a number of Cambridge alumni innovation enterprises intending to land in the Centre.

Aiming at the development orientation of "Three Platforms and One Centre", CUNJC is actively building an independent innovation research platform based on market-oriented applied research, a platform for the transfer of technological achievements, and a gathering platform for world-class resources, striving to build the Centre into an international centre of excellence with global influence.

Closely following the development orientation and focusing on the path building of the innovation platform for transfer of scientific research achievements, Professor Chu said that on the one hand, the Centre conducts research achievements and technology transfer based on scientific research projects. On the other hand, it actively links international cutting-edge scientific and technological projects, and promotes the landing of high-quality innovative projects; with the support of continuous input of high-quality projects, the Centre establishes regular contacts with governments at all levels, scientific research institutes, enterprises and investment institutions at home and abroad, and builds a multi-dimensional ecosystem of "government, production, learning, government and capital" for the transfer of scientific research results; At the same time, it introduces advanced technology transfer service concepts and knowledge from Cambridge University and the world, organises international exchange seminars, establish professional teams, and improve the quality of technology transfer services.

Professor Chu also highlighted three Cambridge alumni companies from the perspectives of market background, core technology, business model, and financing needs. They are "a technology company focusing on the management of the whole process of infrastructure investment and financing" - BRI Data, "a self-driving company aiming at the road-level unmanned vehicle distribution market" - Wheel Dynamic, and "a carbon-neutral technology company with near-zero emissions solutions for gas-efficient use of methane" - Yuyuan New Energy. The above-mentioned technology-based enterprises have participated in the "International Technology Series Roadshow" held by the Centre, and formally signed MoUs with the Centre in September this year. The Centre will continue to provide technology-based enterprises with a good innovation and entrepreneurial ecology.

To better serve the needs of enterprises for innovation and internationalisation, promote the efficient transformation of advanced technological achievements in Jiangsu, and promote the "Belt and Road" innovation cooperation and technology transfer, Jiangsu Province has actively supported the development of international technology transfer service agencies for many years. As an international technology transfer service agency in Jiangsu, the CUNJC takes original applied research as the entry point, and takes technological innovation and industrial application as the starting point to promote international technology transfer and scientific research industrialisation, helping local to integrate into global innovation system. Since its establishment in 2018, the Centre has obtained a number of technical invention patents while introducing original scientific research projects from Cambridge University, and has held a number of international technology series roadshows and alumni innovation and entrepreneurship salons and other activities; After moving into the new site, a number of alumni start-ups originating from Cambridge Technology have been incubated and landed at the Centre, and innovative empowerment projects for technology entrepreneurs such as Impulse Programme of Cambridge University have been introduced to actively cultivate local technological innovation ecosystem.

As the first research institution established by the University of Cambridge outside the UK, the Centre will continue to play the role as a hub, provide high-quality channels for the efficient connection between local industry innovation needs and international innovation resources through multiple means such as project roadshows, summit forums, international resource promotion meetings, and innovation and entrepreneurship training, and serve high-level openness and high-quality development in the region to promote the internationalisation of local entrepreneurship and innovation.
