Impulse Programme

impulse programme is a 12-week hybrid programme – which is offered online and in-person via the Maxwell Centre, the University’s hub for industry and research - is unique in serving as a catalyst for both entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship, with a sharp focus on the development of high-potential technology innovation into a commercial proposition and prioritising high-potential business cases.

It is specifically designed to simultaneously host both entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs with the newest ideas, or ideas that will challenge or evolve out of a corporate environment. The Programme was introduced into China by CUNJC in 2022, and has been recognised and praised by local trainees.

Rooted in the world's densest high-tech cluster - the Cambridge Cluster, impulse takes inclusiveness as its core spirit, and has continuously promoted cooperation with innovators and entrepreneurs from different disciplines, industries, and countries during its seven years of operation. Other universities, research institutions, companies and individual participants will communicate and discuss with participants from the University of Cambridge and the Cambridge Science and Technology Innovation Cluster.

From 2017 to 2023, there have been nearly 10 local students have participated in the impulse programme and carried out entrepreneurial practice. They have devoted themselves to the tracks covering several fields such as new energy, new materials, information technology, life health, and have achieved fruitful results.

For example, Deng Yuanbo, a trainee in 2017 Programme, won a series of honours like the first prize in the Finals of 2021 "Win in Nanjing" Overseas Talent Entrepreneurship Competition, the 2021 Purple Mountain Talent Plan (Entrepreneurship), the 2023 Most Influential Overseas Students in Nanjing, and the 2023 Jiangsu Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent. Reavis, the AR display technology company he founded, has completed two rounds of financing and is valued at hundreds of millions of yuan.

At the same time, in the process of being introduced into China by the CUNJC, impulse programme focuses on supporting the development of local innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem and cultivating local university talents. For example, it has actively cooperated with domestic universities such as Southeast University. The early-stage entrepreneurial project "Development of Power Dispatching Algorithms for Bi-directional Charging and Discharging of V2G Electric Vehicles" by the team of Song Tiancheng, a trainee in 2023 Programme and a doctoral student at Southeast University, was formally launched and recently settled in the CUNJC's Incubation Area.
