The third roadshow of the International Technology Roadshow Series

Co-sponsored by the Nanjing Jiangbei New Area Management Committee and CUNJC, the third roadshow of the International Technology Roadshow Series of the Centre was successfully held on December 15.

Chen Chanmei, Member of the Party Working Committee of Nanjing Jiangbei New Area and Deputy Director of the Management Committee, Chen Jianpeng, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Jiangbei New Area Central Business District and Director of the Construction Management Office, Shang Zhenbai, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Innovation Bureau of Jiangbei New Area, Daping Chu, Tenured Professor of the University of Cambridge, CEO and Academic Director of CUNJC, attended the roadshow and delivered speeches. The roadshow was hosted by Albert Wu, General Research Manager of CUNJC.

A total of 6 technologically leading Cambridge research projects were launched during the roadshow, covering computer science, sensor technology, and biomedicine. Some of these projects are initiated by professors and PhDs from the University of Cambridge, while others include Cambridge alumni in the founding team. Representatives of more than 20 investment institutions focusing on early-stage projects were invited.

In addition to the roadshow projects, dozens of Cambridge alumni participated online or on-spot. After the roadshow, the Centre also invited Cambridge alumni, representatives of investment institutions, and government guests to discuss on the theme of technology innovation and entrepreneurship.

Some of the six projects have entered the product stage or have begun small-scale production. These projects are not only technologically advanced, but also have high conversion efficiency, broad prospects and good project growth.

Chen Chanmei, on behalf of Jiangbei New Area, wished the roadshow a success. She said that innovation is an important feature of Jiangbei New Area and Cambridge University is an international model of technological innovation. She looks forward to continuing to promote the marketization and industrialization of innovative technologies through the cooperation hub of CUNJC.

Chen Chanmei sincerely invited participating investment institutions to pay attention to Jiangbei New Area with active capital elements. She emphasized, "The forward-looking nature of Cambridge University's science and technology projects is self-evident and the new site provides good hardware conditions for the Centre to carry out roadshows. Jiangbei New Area will allocate high-quality services and resources for roadshow projects, and look forward to the roadshow project’s transformation from embryonic form to product, from technology to market, and landing to serve the society.

Daping Chu expressed his gratitude to the online and on-spot guests who participated in the roadshow. He introduced that this roadshow is the first entrepreneurial technology roadshow held after the Centre settled in the new site. As a series of roadshows hosted by the Centre, last year the Centre successfully launched two special sessions on biomedicine and health care, and new-type electronic and optoelectronic technologies. The landing rate of the projects exceeded 50%, and some projects have already settled in the Centre.

Professor Chu said that adhering to the University of Cambridge’s advantages and philosophy of driving innovation, the Centre will continue to hold a series of roadshows for science and innovation projects, serving the project team, Cambridge alumni, and the New Area, and helping Cambridge's high-quality scientific research projects land in China and in Nanjing and build an effective platform for exchanges and connection among investment institutions, enterprises, project teams and innovative talents.

How to build an efficient technological innovation ecosystem? At the subsequent symposium, Professor Chu emphasized that the technological innovation ecosystem is a multi-system, which requires the collaboration of all parties. “The Cambridge Nanjing Centre, which is positioned as a technological innovation platform, actively introduces the world’s top scientific and technological achievements on the one hand. On the one hand, focusing on the development of science and technology in Nanjing and even the whole country, it will simultaneously create innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities for Cambridge alumni and the local area. We look forward to working with all elements to maximize services and promote innovation and entrepreneurship, stimulate the potential of scientific research talents, and help them cross the "Valley of Death", thus growing into gazelle enterprises and unicorn enterprises".

Investment institutions participating in this roadshow include Fosun USD Industrial Fund, Linear Capital, China Renaissance K2 Ventures, Costone Capital, K2 Angel Partners and other domestic first-line venture capital institutions focusing on early-stage projects. The event received good feedback from investment institutions. At the symposium, Tang Tengjie, General Manager of Fosun USD organization, said that the six roadshow projects were refreshing. He shared that with economic development and technological progress, the original investment logic and ideas of investment institutions are being adjusted and are beginning to extend to both ends. The back end focuses on post-investment industry empowerment, and the front end extends to the forefront of technological innovation and captures earlier project investment opportunities.

He highly recognized the roadshow, "As an investment institution, I am very grateful to the Nanjing Centre for providing a platform to focus on early projects and start-ups. I hope to maintain a high-frequency communication with the Centre in future."

The Cambridge Science and Technology projects participating in this roadshow are:

AI computer vision company Robok, which focuses on the development of 3D perception software for transportation and industrial facilities; sensor company Sorex Sensors, which focuses on the development of gas and particulate matter sensors based on FBAR technology; Deep Verse, a company in the academic field, is committed to speeding up the R&D process by combining computational physics + artificial intelligence + high-throughput experiments; Cambridge Nucleomics, using DNA nanotechnology and solid-state nanopore technology to achieve quantitative detection of ribonucleic acid, is committed to develop next-generation biosensors; BioMavericks, a liquid biopsy company, focuses on early diagnosis of pan-cancer based on single-cell transcriptome analysis; Nanjing Yunying Biotechnology, which focuses on the development and clinical transformation of contrast agents for cancer precision surgery.

In order to build an effective platform for the advanced scientific research and technological achievements of the University of Cambridge and its innovation ecosystem, to connect with the domestic innovation and entrepreneurial industry needs and innovation capital, and to promote the implementation of high-quality innovation projects and the market application of advanced scientific research results, the Centre will continue to organize "International Technology Series of Roadshows" with the form of on-site + cloud, focusing on Cambridge high-quality technological innovation projects, gathering diversified elements from academia, industry, government, and funding to investment institutions, industrial parks, Various companies conduct professional promotion to create an ecological cycle of cross-border technology development and industrial application.
